LUKOMIR, BOSNIA – JANUARY 2000: First time I came to village she was the only baby in the village. Population is consisted of two girls under thirties, one baby and dozen or so man and women over sixties. Lukomir (meaning peaceful resort) is the tiny village (ca 50 inhabitants) relatively close to Sarajevo (approx 50Km) bur very isolated due to the fact that it’s situated on top of Olympic mountain Bjelasnica on 2000mt of altitude. For at least six months a year the only way to get to the village is on foot, moto ski or helicopter. I walked 6hrs first time I went there. What makes this village particular is the fact that time kinda stands still there. They still live without electricity, phones, water system, they were traditional clothes you can’t find anywhere else in Bosnia. Lukomir is the only place in Bosnia virtually untouched by recent war as well by 1st and 2nd World war. The village was founded in 12th century and it was constantly inhabited ever since. Most of the younger people left the village looking for easier life in the cities. At the time this story was made there was only one child in the village. Some of the older people were born, raised, married and never left the village.
