For his first solo exhibition in six years, Joachim Ladefoged will present his work, “After My Time – A Photo Exhibition” as a part of the events at this year’s Copenhagen Photofestival in June.
“July of 2001 Joachim Ladefoged and his wife had their first, long-wished-for child. Two months later 9/11 struck, and Ladefoged went from joy to fear. His life as a photojournalist, documenting the hotspots of the world, was changed forever; he did not want his children to grow up without a father. He restructured his life, wrapped himself around his family, and turned his gaze inwards. Then he began to feel a need take stock. He began to take a closer look at what kind of world his children were going to grow up in, and what he carried from his childhood that he could pass on to them. This book is his journey back in time, back to his childhood, to all the places he has lived and from which he carries memories. His meeting with the past turned out to be more difficult than he had imagined. It was worth it though. It was a journey back in time to find his roots; a journey that taught him to look ahead by looking back.
The pictures exhibited here have never been shown before and are excerpted from Ladefoged’s new book published by Gyldendal. The book will be launched at the vernissage, June 5th at 6 pm and the author will be available to sign copies.”
