Sept. 21 – 25, 2016
Photoville
Brooklyn, New York

Award-winning photojournalist Ron Haviv processed over 200 rolls of his own undeveloped analog film that had been previously put aside and forgotten. These images, some nearly twenty-five years old, are collected in his newest book The Lost Rolls, which features moments from Haviv’s professional career and personal life. The photographs, which allowed a re-engagement with Haviv’s lost past, bear evidence of light leaks, mold and other vagaries of time. Together, they offer a meditation on the artifacts we use to remember history, and how our relationship to memory and images is changing with the shift from analog film to digital.

This exhibition is also a call to action, as Haviv created Lost Rolls America to open the magical reencounter with the past to everyone. Photoville marks this project’s launch with the collection of undeveloped film (to be processed and scanned for free) from the public, whose images will become part of a national archive. Lost Rolls America acts as a repository of visual memories accompanied by written anecdotes, accessible publicly via website, and later, by a book and exhibitions.

The Lost Rolls and Lost Rolls America is presented in partnership with Fujifilm North America, and PhotoShelter.
