It’s Time to Fight Drug-Resistant TB in Children

VII Photo Agency is proud to have partnered with the Stop TB Partnership to create a multimedia campaign to raise awareness worldwide about the challenges faced by children affected by drug-resistant tuberculosis in getting diagnosed and treated.

Maggie SteberMary Gelman, Ashley Gilbertson, and Ziyah Gafic traveled to Haiti, Kyrgyzstan, and Nigeria to produce photo and video content that supports the discussion around why there needs to be new tools to diagnose and treat TB. It is a treatable and curable disease yet children are still dying from it.

The Stop TB’s Global Drug Facility (GDF) set up the Pediatric Drug-Resistant TB Initiative aiming to ensure access to the best possible treatments to children suffering from one of the deadliest diseases that exist.

For decades, there were no child-friendly medicines to treat drug-resistant TB, so doctors had to treat them with drugs created for adults. But that is changing, and now there are new child-friendly medicines to treat drug-resistant TB in children.
