Julia Kochetova is a Ukrainian photojournalist and documentary filmmaker based in Kyiv. She studied journalism at Taras Shevchenko National University and Mohyla School of Journalism in Ukraine. Kochetova is also an alumna of the IDFA Academy in the Netherlands.
In her work, Kochetova has covered significant events such as the Maidan revolution (2013-2014), the annexation of Crimea (2014), and the ongoing Russia-Ukraine war. She focuses on firsthand storytelling as a method, researching topics including the war generation, post-traumatic stress disorder, and feminism. Kochetova employs mixed media, including poetry, documentaries, music, and stills. She prefers freelancing and is a regular contributor to publications such as Der Spiegel, Vice News, Zeit, Bloomberg, The Guardian, among others.
