This series showcases recent work from alumni of VII Community. Every few months, we will invite two to three alumni of VII Community to present their stories on a particular theme.

VII Community, in partnership with PhotoWings, provides a career-enhancing network for VII Academy and Foundry Photojournalism Workshop alumni worldwide.

In this episode, we will be discussing the work of alumni Ranita Roy with her project “Standing on the Edge”, Nhàn Tran with her project “Between the Silent Eyes” and Billy H.C. Kwok with his project “For So Many Years When I Close My Eyes”.

Participants

Billy HC Kwok is a photographer based between Hong Kong and Taiwan. His projects focus on the rapid shifts in the geopolitical relationships and various forms of power structures present in China and its neighboring regions. Alongside his photographic practice, he also works also on multimedia storytelling projects.
Nhàn Tran is a Vietnamese documentary photographer based between Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh City. Her works focus on long-term stories, drawing attention to social issues and advocating for equitable and sustainable development in the country. Nhan primarily focuses on minority groups, exploring the themes of human conditions. She applies a variety of media techniques and is currently working on her first feature-length documentary film.
Ranita Roy is an independent storyteller from Kolkata and Pune in India. In her work she explores intersections of fiction and reality, often creating split-screen stories using photography, video, and animation. Roy has a degree in Environmental Science and knowledge in anthropology, zoology, and botany. With her broad understanding of both land and people, her projects focus on themes related to the environment, social justice, and mental health.
