Ranita Roy

Ranita Roy is an independent storyteller from Kolkata and Pune in India. In her work she explores intersections of fiction and reality, often creating split-screen stories using photography, video, and animation. Roy has a degree in Environmental Science and knowledge in anthropology, zoology, and botany. With her broad understanding of both land and people, her projects focus on themes related to the environment, social justice, and mental health.

Roy’s work has been published by Reuters, The Washington Post Magazine, The New York Times, CNN, The Caravan magazine, NPR, and The Guardian. Her projects have been exhibited at renowned festivals, including the Breda Photo Festival in The Netherlands and the Jakarta International Photo Festival in Indonesia. In 2021, she became a Magnum Foundation Photography and Social Justice Fellow.
