ENGAGE

We are committed to freedom of the press, advocate for journalists’ safety, and support individuals in vulnerable situations. We organize public conversations that promote independent reporting as a tool for civic engagement and social impact. Our regular online events and in-person presentations — as well as Dispatches, our Substack publication — probe the production and power of images and strive for a diverse, secure, and viable profession, especially for freelancers worldwide. We do not endorse political parties or take partisan positions.

The fish belong in the river, but the river is gone. A man stands in the water, while balloons shaped like dolphins float above, a parody of joy. Nature is replaced by plastic, survival is presented as celebration. Urbanisation turns rivers into markets, creatures into commodities, and memory into something fleeting. © Jubair Ahmed Arnob.

ICE agents detain a man in the hallway of 26 Federal Plaza immediately after his hearing. Arrests like this occur even when respondents comply with court proceedings, a practice immigrant rights groups call “courthouse arrests.” While some families walk out together, others vanish into detention, often transferred to Hudson County Correctional Facility in New Jersey or Orange County Jail in New York. In FY 2025, ICE reported holding over 59,000 people in detention on a given day, nearly half with no criminal record. In New York City, more than 30% of ICE arrests between May and June 2025 occurred inside courthouses. © Nicolò Filippo Rosso.
