Paul Lowe Residency
Throughout the residency, the selected photographer will have access to The VII Foundation’s Sarajevo campus, including professional printing facilities, exhibition-quality printing materials, and one-to-one editorial and technical mentoring to help strengthen the project’s visual and narrative coherence and prepare it for publication and public presentation.
As part of The VII Foundation’s international ecosystem, the resident will have the opportunity to engage with photographers, journalists, artists, and cultural professionals based in Bosnia and Herzegovina, creating opportunities for professional exchange, new collaborations, and long-term connections.
Sarajevo offers a particularly meaningful setting for this work. As a city shaped by war, resilience, and recovery, it provides both historical perspective and a unique environment for photographers working on conflict and its consequences. Home to a vibrant documentary and cultural community, Sarajevo offers the space to step back from the demands of daily reporting and focus on developing work with greater depth and long-term impact.
By the end of the residency, depending on the project’s stage and goals, the resident may have produced:
- a refined and edited body of work
- exhibition-quality prints
- a publication or book dummy
- a public presentation, artist talk, or open studio
What the Residency Provides
- Accommodation in a fully furnished apartment in the heart of Sarajevo is provided.
