Pablo Vergara

Pablo Vergara (b. 1986, Santiago) is a Chilean documentary photographer and immigrant based in Brazil. Born to Chilean parents exiled during the military dictatorship, his upbringing amidst diverse artistic and cultural influences shaped his perspective on displacement and social justice. His involvement with Brazil’s Landless Workers’ Movement (MST) sparked his passion for visual storytelling, leading to work as a photojournalist at Brasil de Fato, where he developed his approach to social photography.

Vergara focuses on long-term projects examining socio-environmental conflicts, land disputes, and the impact of megaprojects on vulnerable communities. His work highlights social movements, agroecology, rural communities, and housing rights. Drawing on his degree in Architecture and Urban Planning from the University of Chile, he brings a unique spatial and territorial perspective to his photographic narratives. In 2023, he completed additional studies in photojournalism and documentary photography at the Autonomous University of Mexico.

He recently won the IPA Award in the social environmental category, recognizing his commitment to documenting critical social and environmental issues.
