The VII Foundation, commissioned by The Global Fund, documented the heroic efforts of frontline medical teams in Ukraine. Ukrainian photographer Oleksandr Rupeta, a 2023-24 VII Mentor Program alumnus, was assigned to capture the work of mobile healthcare teams delivering lifesaving care in war-torn regions.
Prior to the war in Ukraine, Dmytro Korobenko was a restaurant manager in Kyiv, and Dr. Yulia Tatianchenko was a medical student in Kharkiv. Like all Ukrainians, their lives were radically altered in February 2022; today, the two work together on a mobile medical team that, despite grave danger, brings HIV and TB testing and treatment, as well as other lifesaving care, to communities that have been completely cut off from health services due to the ongoing war.
Operated by Alliance for Public Health with funding from the Global Fund, the mobile teams have reached an estimated 20,000 people in Ukraine who otherwise would have no access to healthcare.
