Atlas Europia: Fragmented Memories and European Identity in Transition – Culture as a Response to Disinformation

The VII Foundation, in partnership with the Institut français de Bosnie-Herzégovine and the Goethe-Institut Bosnia and Herzegovina, presents Atlas Europia: Fragmented Memories and European Identity in Transition – Culture as a Response to Disinformation, a regional project funded with the support of the Franco-German Cultural Fund.

Bringing together photography and public dialogue, the project is developed across Albania, Bosnia and Herzegovina, North Macedonia, Serbia, and Ukraine. It explores how historical trauma, political change, and shifting borders continue to shape collective memory and perceptions of Europe today. It examines the relationship between fragmented memories, European identity, and disinformation, while considering how culture can foster critical thinking, dialogue, and shared understanding.

The Sarajevo program opens on October 14 at 6:00 PM at Europe House with the exhibition ATLAS EUROPIA by photographer Stefano De Luigi. His photographic research documents places connected to historical and contemporary events across the region and forms the artistic component of the project.

On October 15, the program continues with the panel discussion Culture and the Fight Against Disinformation: How Can We Build a Shared European Identity? The discussion will explore the influence of disinformation on perceptions of Europe, the role of culture in responding to contemporary challenges, and questions of European identity in EU candidate countries.
