At the 2013 Joop Swart Masterclass, Gary Knight gave a lecture titled ‘Selling your blood, but not your soul: The moral & material hurdles of a career in photography.’
In his lecture, Knight talks about his experience as a photographer, what it means to be a photographer today and what needs to be kept in mind as one pursues the craft. In the hour-long lecture, he discusses many of the moral and practical considerations that most documentary photographers have had or will have to face during their careers. He speaks about his own experiences working as a photographer and includes images from his stories in the lectures.
Knight, this year’s Chair for the World Press Photo jury, taught at the Joop Swart masterclass, a prestigious event that brings together some of the world’s best emerging and established talents.
