The Nature Through Her Eyes Festival 2022 opened in Cape Town, South Africa, on November 17, 2022. In its second edition, the festival focused on recording sounds in nature, featuring a masterclass workshop on sound and bioacoustics conducted by Dr. Tess Gridley and her team in collaboration with Sea Search. Held over four days, the festival in Cape Town hosted workshops, discussions, and screenings dedicated to celebrating women’s contributions to the natural world. Alongside training sessions were talks led by prominent women in the industry covering writing techniques, structure, production, and other filmmaking tools.
This year’s keynote address was delivered by Dr. Paula Kahumbu, who was recognized as one of the FT‘s Most Influential Women of 2022. She focused on technical aspects and addressed the challenges women encounter while advancing their careers in the industry. The daily screenings showcased feature-length documentaries and shorts directed and filmed by women, including the award-winning Honeyland, co-directed by Tamara Kotevska.
