The first workshop, from 1:00pm – 2:30pm “Mobile Photography & Storytelling” will include panelists Richard Koci Hernandez, professor at UC Berkeley Graduate School of Journalism, Ed Kashi, and Tyson Wheatley, of Instagram, along with moderator Andre Hermann. The robust debate over the “legitimacy of mobile photography is the inspiration for this workshop,” but participants will also get practical tips about composition and process from the always entertaining and enlightening Koci Hernandez.
Following “Mobile Photography & Storytelling” will be a workshop on the subject of “Photography & Empathy” from 3:00pm – 4:30pm. Panelists Ed Kashi, Amy Yenkin, Oren Ziv, and moderator Nancy Farese will highlight the way in which these human emotions lie at the heart of photography. This workshop will answer questions like, “Where does one start as a concerned photographer in the digital age? What is the role of empathy and ethics in both your relationship with your subject and your relationship with your audience?”
