Fatma Fahmy

Fatma Fahmy is an independent visual storyteller based in Cairo, Egypt. Her work focuses on environmental concerns and social issues. She is also a contributing photographer to Reuters.

In 2020, Fahmy received the Daniele Tamagni Grant at the Market Photo Workshop in South Africa. This gave her the opportunity to participate in the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Program of VII Academy.  In the same year, she was recognized as one of the African Photographers by the PhMuseum. 

Fahmy’s work has been exhibited internationally, spanning across Ethiopia, Germany, London, Ivory Coast, Ecuador, France, Jordan, Switzerland, Italy, Morocco, South Africa, and the United Arab Emirates. She was showcased at prominent venues, including the Cité Internationale des Arts in Paris and the Festival della Fotografia Etica in Lodi, Italy. 

She achieved recognition as one of the top ten finalists for the Everyday Projects grant for her ongoing long-term series ‘The Lost Lake’. The same project received attention as a shortlist finalist for the Sony World Photography Awards in the Environment category.
