Sergio Meléndez (Lima, Peru, 2000) is a photographer and visual artist whose work explores memory, domestic space, and the ways trauma inhabits both the body and architecture. Through photography and installation, he develops visual investigations rooted in intimate experience, engaging broader questions of identity, territory, and silence within Latin American contexts.
His practice draws from personal and family archives, examining fragmentation, absence, and the unstable construction of memory through images. Combining documentary approaches with staged and archival materials.
His work has been exhibited across South America and Europe, including at the Museum of Contemporary Art of Lima (MAC), the Valparaíso International Photography Festival (FIFV), and FICHA Fest. In 2026, his work will be presented at Somerset House, London, as part of the Sony World Photography Awards exhibition, and at Mesnographies – Festival International de Photographie, France.
Meléndez was shortlisted for the Sony World Photography Awards 2026 (Professional Competition, Creative category, and Latin America Professional Award). He was also a finalist for the Ian Parry Photojournalism Grant and received an Honorable Mention at the FIFV Portfolio Review (2024). He has participated in programs and mentorships, including the VII Foundation, the Guest Room at Der Greif, and the Strudelmedia Live Photography Mentoring Scholarship.
