Shubhadeep Mukherjee

Shubhadeep Mukherjee is a photographer and visual artist based in New Delhi, India. He is currently pursuing a Master’s in Journalism and Mass Communication at AJKMCRC, Jamia Millia Islamia. As a self-taught artist, Shubhadeep tells stories through portraits, archival materials, and mixed media, focusing on the complexities of human experience and social issues. He has enhanced his narrative skills by participating in workshops such as the Foundry Photojournalism Workshop and the Storytelling Workshop with Photographers Without Borders. Shubhadeep’s background in wildlife biology further enriches his artistic perspective. Through his work, he aims to spark conversations and share stories that connect humanity through powerful imagery.

In 2024, Shubhadeep was a finalist in the Fine Arts Category of the Lucie Emerging Artists Scholarship Awards for his work “Smells Like Home,” which was also exhibited at the Los Angeles Center of Photography. His work was featured in print at the Indian Photo Fest in Hyderabad in 2024, and he received an Honourable Mention in the Lucie Emerging Artist Scholarship Awards in 2021. His projects have been featured in the Photographers Without Borders online magazine, the British Journal of Photography, and Deccan Chronicle. As a freelance Analog Photo Illustrator for the Washington Post, his series was nominated for the 2024 Pulitzer Awards. This allowed him to merge illustration with impactful journalism on critical contemporary issues. Most recently, in 2025, he received the 2025 W. Eugene Smith Student Grant and the Alexia Public Diplomacy Student Grant.
