?Untold Stories. VII and EyeEm Team Up to Discover The World’s Emerging Photographers

VII is excited to announce that we are partnering with EyeEm, the world’s premier photography community and platform, to discover some of the world’s most promising and talented emerging photographers. To coincide with the announcement of our 2015 Mentor Program open call,? we’re launching Untold Stories with EyeEm, a 3-week photo mission that aims to discover the most thought-provoking and visually compelling untold stories from the EyeEm community and beyond.

Share the untold stories of your world

Every image tells a story. This mission is about the stories that are untold. It’s the stories of the people and places around us that don’t have a voice of their own and remain unseen, y?et happen everyday in front of our very own eyes. ?What are the untold stories that you have witnessed? Take a look around, capture a moment, tell the story in your caption and submit it to this mission.

Win a portfolio review with a VII photographer

From the entries, the jury, consisting of Donald Weber, Sarker Protick and Maciek Nabrdalik, will select 25 finalists and one winner. The top winner receives a one-on-one portfolio review with a VII photographer. The review aims to expand the winning photographer’s practice ?and to support them in their journey as engaged visual storytellers.

Two runner-ups will receive a signed book from VII photographers. All finalist images will be featured on the EyeEm blog.

The jury

Maciek Nabrdalik

Maciek Nabrdalik is a documentary photographer based in Poland. He is a member of the prestigious VII Photo agency. Although Nabrdalik works worldwide his main concentration is on sociological changes in Eastern Europe.

Maciek’s work has been exhibited in the U.S., Mexico, France, Italy, Germany, Czech Republic, Greece and Poland and appears in the Smithsonian Magazine, L’Espresso, Stern, Newsweek, Bloomberg Businessweek Polityka, New York Times and The Wall Street Journal among others.

His awards include honors from World Press Photo (2014), Pictures of the Year International (2013, 2011), NPPA The Best of Photojournalism (2012, 2011, 2010) and multiple awards in his native Poland. In 2012 he was awarded with grant from Polish Ministry of Culture and National Heritage to continue his project on Nazi camps survivors worldwide, which was published as a book called The Irreversible in 2013.

Donald Weber

Prior to photography, Donald Weber originally trained as an architect and worked with urban theorist Rem Koolhaas’ Office for Metropolitan Architecture (OMA) in Rotterdam, The Netherlands. He has since devoted himself to the study of how Power deploys an all-encompassing theater for its subjects; what he records is its secret collaboration with both masters and victims.

Weber is the author of four books. His first, Bastard Eden, Our Chernobyl, won the photolucida Book Prize and asked a simple question: what is daily life actually like, in a post-atomic world? His next book, Interrogations, about post-Soviet authority in Ukraine and Russia, has gone on to much acclaim; it is included in Martin Parr and Gerry Badger’s seminal ‘The Photobook: A History, Volume III.’ His latest book, Barricade, is a collaboration about the smoking language of the Ukrainian Revolt’s siege apparatus, released fall, 2014. ‘War Sand’ is about forensic inquisitiveness and existential wondering beyond the endless quiet that lies beyond the flare of bold historical events.

Sarker Protick

Sarker Protick was born in Dhaka, Bangladesh. As a teenager he wanted to be a musician and songwriter, but discovered photography around the age of 24. After finishing his bachelor’s degree, he enrolled at Pathshala South Asian Media Institute to learn photography. Sarker’s photographs have been published in The New York Times, GEO Magazine, The New Yorker, La Libèration, National Geographic, Die Zeit, The British Journal of Photography, The Sunday Times and Wired, among many others.

In 2014, he was named in British Journal Of Photography’s annual ‘Ones to Watch’. The same year, Sarker was selected for the World Press Photo Joop Swart Masterclass. In 2015, he went on to win a World Press Photo award for his story ‘What Remains’ and selected for PDN’s 30.

Sarker is currently teaching at Pathshala South Asian Media Academy.
