For the first time in the history of VII, we are happy to offer a guest-curated print sale.
VII is honored to have had Alessia Glaviano, Senior Photo Editor for Vogue Italia and L’Uomo Vogue, curate this collection. Alessia has a highly cultured and nuanced visual sensibility nurtured in a photographic space quite different to that in which we generally find ourselves. It is intriguing and stimulating for us to see how she responds to our work.
This special edition of the VII print sale begins February 17 and concludes on February 28, 2020.
“When Gary Knight asked me to curate the VII print sale, I accepted with humility, knowing that it was an impossible task and that any choice I made would be inadequate when confronted with such an immense and meaningful archive. The task was to pick seven photographs out of 100,000 in the archive.
What guided me was the desire to show a mix of tenderness and strength. I deliberately decided to leave out the horrors of war and the horror of what men can do to each other in general, with the conviction that there are more appropriate occasions to show those images.
Images that are nonetheless necessary and extremely important to shape us as human beings, even more so in this historical period that sees the reassertion of nationalist and extremist sentiments, the pushing away of the Other through the construction of walls – be they physical or mental. Images that constitute an invaluable visual archive of memory and are the result of the tireless and committed work of some of the most talented photojournalists.”
For the price of $100 USD, each special edition 8”×10” photograph is hand-signed by the photographer. Printed on Fuji Crystal Archive museum grade C-Type paper at New York City’s top photographic lab, these images are beautifully packaged and sleeved in fully archival materials. Each print is embossed with the VII logo and comes with a certificate of authenticity printed on museum grade acid-free paper.
The sale begins on February 17 at 12:00 PM EST and concludes on February 28, at 11:59 PM EST.
All prints will be sent using the United States Postal Service via certified mail and will ship approximately 30 days after the end of the sale.
