The lake, once one of the largest in the world, has now completely dried up due to climate change and environmental destruction, forcing people to engage in dryland farming on the fertile lakebed. Square Mile is an initiative by VII Community, a program of The VII Foundation in partnership with PhotoWings, showcasing the significance of local stories in a global context through photographic explorations by selected members of VII Community.

Join us for a screening of selected projects by the members of VII Community for Square Mile. After the screening, Ron Haviv, the Director of The VII Foundation, Suzie Katz, Founder and President of PhotoWings, and photographers Mihaela Aroyo and Mahdi Barchian, members of VII Community, will take part in a discussion panel on the importance of a local focus, the transformative power of photography, and the role of community. Nika Perne, VII Community Manager and project curator will moderate the discussion.
