We are pleased to announce the next Stanmeyer Visual Storytelling Workshop, taking place in one of the most fascinating, poetically beautiful, story filled countries — Armenia.

This 9-day event, held in the historical town of Gyumri, is a workshop for advanced amateurs and professional photographers, seeking insight, guidance and passion to expand their photographic skills. You will learn the power of deep narrative storytelling, embracing your visual voice, discovering your distinct fingerprint of how you see the world and the process of publishing your work.

Each day, John will guide this small, intimate group of photographers, in the art of editing, immersing into your subject matter and yourself. You will be encouraged to expand your storytelling by Stanmeyer showing you audio field recording techniques and the art of short filmmaking. Throughout the nine days, you will learn how to craft your story both as a completed project, and as a published piece to present to publications. Additionally, you will acquire skills on how to truly leverage the most powerful form of communication and publishing today: Social Media — Do not underestimate this power and potential.

Throughout the event, John will present stories he has produced from over twenty years of photographing for the world’s leading publications, such as National Geographic and Time magazine. Stanmeyer will bring each photographer into his planning, research and psyche of creating more than 14 stories for National Geographic.

This workshop is open to only 12 photographers. To support education and photography in the region, two additional Armenian photographers will be sponsored for the event, bringing an added layer of cross-cultural insight for all participants.

To assist him throughout the classes, Stanmeyer will be joined by two of countries most talented photographers working today — Anush Babajanyan and Nazik Armenakyan, co- founding members of 4Plus, an NGO photo cooperative that works to empower female photographers in Armenia and throughout the Caucasus.

The future of photography is storytelling. Now is the time to learn from National Geographic photographer and World Press Photo of the Year recipient, John Stanmeyer. An early Spring photographic saturation that will deeply transform your life and the way you look at the world.
