Ni Liang graduated from the International Center of Photography (ICP) in New York in 2012, where he received the Alan Model Scholarship. His personal works have been shortlisted in photography festivals in Berlin, New York, and France. In 2016, he participated in a residency program at the Abbey of Saint-Riquier in France.
In 2018, he served as a curator for the Lianzhou International Photography Festival. In 2019, the photobook The Eighth Day, which he published for artist Gao Shan, won the Photobook of the Year Award at the Paris Photo–Aperture Foundation Firstbook Awards. In 2024, he was a final-round judge for the Xiaohongshu (RED) Photography Competition and became a global nominator for the Prix Pictet, the prestigious Swiss photography prize.
Ni founded Imageless Studio in 2015 and launched the Imageless Dummy Photobook Awards (IDPA) in 2018, focusing on creative practices and the promotion of visual work through print media. Since 2016, he has been active in international photography fairs and book exhibitions. In addition to collaborating with leading Chinese artists, he has worked with internationally renowned photographers such as Koji Onaka (Japan) and Ismail Ferdous (winner of the 2023 Leica Oskar Barnack Award). His studio has participated in major photography fairs including Photo London, Paris Polycopies, and the ICP Photobook Fair in New York.
