Nicolás Pereyra was born in Montevideo, Uruguay, in 1982. He developed an interest in photography at an early age. In 2005, he joined the Montevideo newspaper El País as a photojournalist. By 2009, he was appointed photo editor of the newspaper’s main section, where he is responsible for the section’s organization, daily photo coverage, and long-term assignments. Throughout his career, he has covered various significant events, including the 2014 World Cup in Brazil, the 2018 World Cup in Russia, and the 2022 World Cup in Qatar.
In addition to his work at El País, he has published in Latin American and European media and held more than 10 solo exhibitions. His first book, “Ataraxia,” was published in 2013, followed by his second book, “Larga Distancia,” in 2016. This book tells a story of unrequited love set in Jordan. In 2022, he showcased his latest work, “Not Everything Is for Sale.”
In 2015, he co-founded El Ministerio Ediciones, the first Uruguayan publishing house specializing in photo books. The house has established sales networks worldwide and has released six books to date, focusing on Uruguayan authors. He serves as editor.
He was invited to participate in the portfolio review event at the international photography festival sanjosefoto.uy in 2016. The following year, he graduated as a University Expert in Applied Professional Photography from Miguel Hernández University in Spain.
In 2024, he served as a judge for the prestigious World Press Photo competition, the Hamburg Photo Review, and the Luis Valtueña International Humanitarian Photography Award in Spain.
