Sara Kontar is a Syrian artist, photographer, and filmmaker based in France since 2016. In her work, she delves into her roots and the experience of exile, conveying human emotions from a personal and intimate perspective.
She holds a Master’s degree in Animation Cinema from the École Nationale Supérieure des Arts Décoratifs de Paris (ENSAD) and is an alumna of Magnum Foundation and VII Foundation.
Kontar’s first documentary film, 3350 KM, was selected for various international festivals and is a candidate for the European Film Academy Awards. Her earlier experimental video works have been showcased at venues such as the Centre Pompidou and Palais de Tokyo in Paris, France.
Alongside her practice, Kontar is the founder of Al-Ayoun, a platform for visual storytellers in Syria and the diaspora. The platform focuses on connecting Syrian storytellers and organizing exhibitions and screenings.
