Following their recent panel at The VII Foundation’s events during the Rencontres d’Arles festival professional week, guest speakers Sara Qudah, Andrew Cheatham, and Sara Kontar will reconvene for this online event to examine the global rise in authoritarianism, the corresponding threat to a free press, and how independent media can respond.

Andrew Cheatham, legal and policy expert and former Senior Advisor for Global Policy at the United States Institute for Peace, Syrian photographer and VII Community member Sara Kontar, and Middle East and North Africa Regional Director for the Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ) Sara Qudah, will discuss how to counter disinformation and anti-democratic rhetoric, and resist the suppression of the free press through impactful, solution-oriented reporting.

The discussion will be followed by an audience Q&A.
