Yan Cong is a researcher and visual storyteller based in Amsterdam, The Netherlands. She previously worked as a photojournalist and video producer in Beijing for six years. Her work has been published internationally such as The New York Times, The Washington Post, Bloomberg, and Vice. Yan co-founded Far & Near, a Substack newsletter about nonfiction visual storytelling from China, and contributes to Chaoyang Trap, a newsletter on internet culture in China. Yan graduated from Columbia Journalism School in 2014 and is currently pursuing a research Masters in New Media and Digital Culture at the University of Amsterdam.
