In February, Ed Kashi will lead a two-day photography workshop in Sausalito, California. The first day of the workshop will lead-off with a discussion, led by Kashi, of workshop participants’ work and various topics related to photography, documentary photography and photojournalism. Following the discussion, participants will venture into Sausalito, photographing and documenting the town.

The second day of the workshop will consist of a group critique, and a continuation of the conversation with Kashi on topics such as advocacy journalism, working with NGOs and foundations, capturing motion and audio, and developing a voice through distinctive imagery. Any capture device is acceptable for the workshop, including mobile devices. Following the workshop, participants will be asked to submit 5 of their favorite images, which Kashi will publish on his blog along with participants’ bios and to the VII Instagram feed.

On January 31, before the workshop, Kashi will give a lecture titled It’s Personal: The Power of Visual Storytelling, featuring his most recent work from the religious conflict in northern Nigeria.
