Luca Sofri, the curator of Pensavo Peccioli, writes, “The Russian invasion of Ukraine, its massacres and destructions, the people who are victims, are again told by the images of war photojournalists, even in these times of social networks, influencers, and changes in the communication of everything. And they are images that, on the one hand, always seem the same, for every war, and on the other, they renew their effect and their ability to show terrible and incredible things that we thought were distant: distant in time or distant in space. But wars have never stopped being fought and used for greed, arrogance, ignorance, and nothing like the images of photojournalists tried to remind us of this, even in past years, when the war in Europe seemed unthinkable. The photos of Franco Pagetti, a photojournalist who has followed some of the longest and most serious recent wars, are among those who, with the most insistence and professionalism, anticipated what we would return to see this year.”
