A Message from VII’s New Director

Seventeen years after hatching VII Photo Agency with John Stanmeyer in a monsoon in Hong Kong, and 16 years after launching it with Christopher Morris, Ron Haviv, Antonin Kratochvil, Alexandra Boulat and James Nachtwey at Visa Pour L’Image in Perpignan, I am looking forward to revisiting the role as the agency’s Director.

VII was born in the ruins of the World Trade Center and Kabul in September 2001 and found its voice in the violence and turmoil that followed. In my eyes, VII’s signature has always been its commitment to issues above all other concerns, and to reportage, humanism and documentary practice.

As the media landscape has transformed, VII has transformed. Over the coming months, we will be launching a number of new initiatives that will take the agency into the next phase of its development.

Chief amongst these initiatives is embracing new members, the first of whom will be announced in October.

I look forward to sharing the journey with you.
