“In a war zone, we face the madness of man. In the mountains, the madness of nature.” Renowned war photojournalist Eric Bouvet has documented numerous conflicts. His latest work, “Élévations,” embarks on a project of a different nature, yet one equally formidable, within the Alps.

The Polka Factory in Paris is currently hosting an exhibition showcasing a collection of Bouvet’s images captured from 2019 onwards in the Mont Blanc massif, using large-format cameras measuring 20×25cm and 10×12cm. These photographs pay homage to the splendor of nature and the mountains. Developed on photosensitive paper with techniques dating back to the 19th century, even the slightest imperfection is transformed by the alchemy of chemical reactions during development, resulting in a dreamlike quality, at times verging on abstraction. For Bouvet, his journey represents more than just photography; it is a vital adventure in search of adrenaline and renewal.

These images are also featured in the book of the same title, “Élévations,” published by Editions Photosynthèses (Paris, 2023).

“Élévations” is on display at the Polka Factory in Paris until March 16, 2024.
