The Photo Editors Series is a series of conversations with well-known photo editors about how they view the media today, the role of visuals in reporting, the work they like to see, and advice for photographers on how best to connect with publishers.

Hosted by David Campbell and Ilvy Njiokiktjien, the series will combine an overview of the contemporary media landscape with practical tips. The editors in the series will speak as individuals rather than representatives of their organizations, and the event will be interactive with good opportunities for audience questions.

In this twelfth episode, we will speak with Carla Rosorius. She has been working as a photo editor for GEO since 2015 and was appointed Director of Photography in 2023.

Carla Rosorius

Carla Rosorius is an experienced photo editor, based in Germany. She gained her first work experience as an intern at Süddeutsche Zeitung Magazine, followed by established magazines and newspapers, including Der Spiegel and Die Zeit. Since 2015, Carla has been working for GEO, and in 2023, she was appointed as Director of Photography.

Dr. David Campbell

David Campbell is the Director of VII Insider and the Education Director at The VII Foundation. David is an internationally-experienced, globally-minded communications, media and politics professional with a uniquely varied history of strategy, management, analysis and writing within government, academia, and non-government organizations (NGOs).

Ilvy Njiokiktjien

Ilvy Njiokiktjien is an independent photographer and multimedia journalist based in the Netherlands. She has worked in many parts of the world, focusing on Africa. As a news and documentary photographer, she covers current affairs and contemporary social issues.
